KAEOP History

In 1950, a group of secretaries in Kansas wanted to organize the Kansas Association of School Secretaries. They were encouraged and assisted by State Superintendent, Throckmorton; W.W. Wright, a staff member in the Kansas State Department of Education; and Minter Brown, a member of the Kansas Teachers Association.

In November, 1950, Martha S. Luck of Chicago, a member of the National Association of Educational Secretaries who later became its president, came to Kansas to assist in getting the organization underway. The name “Katie Kansas” was given to this group and the first state president was Vesta White of Lawrence.

The name was later changed to Kansas Association of Educational Secretaries and then to Kansas Association of Educational Office Professionals to coincide with the national organization.

In 2000-2001 the 50th anniversary of KAEOP was celebrated with a reception/open house being held during the Fall Conference in Lexena. During this year of KAEOP, fifty Years of KAEOP History was written.

The KAEOP, Angels for Education, will be working together in 2007-08 to give Kansas educational office professionals support in the areas of information, service, fellowship and recognition.
